Before The Flying Clouds, Lloyd Cannady Sr. began building the foundation through a group he led known as The Lonesome Doves. It wasn't until 1960 that Lloyd Cannady Jr. took over leadership and changed the name to The Flying Clouds of Plum Branch SC. Through years of hard work, he accomplished building a group that became known for their deep melodies and forceful vocals that were patterned after his father. Under his management, the group released multiple albums including: Over on the Other Shore, In my Father's House, Waiting on You, and A Message to Jesus. He also wrote and recorded the song, "Hold My Hand" which was a fan favorite among many.

Lloyd A. Cannady III, better known as Tony, became the CEO/owner/manager of the group in 2022. He looks to preserve the long standing traditions that were put into place by his grandfather and father all while growing the groups trajectory to new heights. In June of 2023, The Flying Clouds released their first album under Tony's management. After only 11 months of being released, the album titled "A New Beginning," topped the Gospel charts at #7 and reigned in the top 10 for over a year.

We're a Gospel group with a notable blues influence, best known for our powerhouse performances that captivate and energize the crowd. While the name has been around for more than 6 decades, we're focusing on creating new and innovative music that combines traditions both new and old and leaves our fans wanting more. Throughout the years, we've performed at popular music festivals including Shakori Hills GrassRoots, The LEAF, Another World, and Finger Lakes GrassRoots since 1999.

"Don't Leave Me" is a song that was written in memory of the late Lloyd Cannady Jr. It's a heartfelt song that depicts one of the final conversations he and Tony had just hours before his passing from cancer. In December of 2025, "Don't Leave Me" topped the Billboard Charts at #79 taking The Flying Clouds to a new height!
